Photos are more than just ink and paper. To some, they hold very deep memories. Without them, those moments might be lost forever.
To say that I could choose just one photo from all that I cherish as my 'most important' photo would be impossible. To most of us, our most loved photos hold the faces of those that are no longer here with us. They are now just memories, but, with just one glance at that precious photo, they almost become real again. Right here with us. We smile, maybe tear up just a little, as our hearts swell, we remember the love that was shared.
Sometimes we actually might just laugh a little. Or, as in the case of this one particular photo below, laugh a lot. I mean, really. 80's hair. Enough said.
Now, for the sappy part. Why is this particular image in my top most important list? My older sister, Kerry, is in this one. Bottom left. Sweet smile. Ugly sweater. (80's, remember?) Beautiful necklace of her sweet boy around her neck. She passed away about 2 1/2 years after this portrait was taken. Cancer. Cancer sucks.
Ahhh, this photo below. It has been a cherished photo for almost 20 years. 20! Wow, I can't believe it's been that long. My Aunt Martha had more energy than 10 toddlers. She was always busy, always moving, and ALWAYS in a good mood. As kids, we all wanted to be at her house. She was FUN. I want to be the fun Aunt too. Not quite sure I'm living up to that! :) At least not quite as much fun as her. She died a mere 16 days after this photo of her and I was taken. An accident. Accidents suck.
This sweet image below is of me and my Mom. My Mom by birth? No. But, through an amazing gift from God above. He knew I needed her. And, I guess she needed me too. Through more than 20 years, ups and downs, we stayed close. I miss her. She died less than two years ago. Pneumonia. Pneumonia sucks.
Do I currently own photos that are close to my "most important' list, but not quite at the top? Of people still on this side of heaven? You bet! A lot. Boxes and boxes. Here are just a few:
These images are happy moments. Fun times. Lots of them. With people that I love. I am SO grateful to the person that invented the camera! As much as I love photography, I have NO IDEA who invented the camera. brb.
Well, here we go (thanks to Google):
Who invented camera? Johann Zahn designed the first camera in 1685. But the first photograph was clicked by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in the year 1814.
I learned something new today! And now, if you didn't know this - so did you!
I say all of this to say - if we have people in our lives that we love, then photos become important. Amazingly important. I've heard stories of people going back into burning buildings for their photos. To say that they were special to that person is an understatement.
Where do your photos currently reside? The important ones? Are they stored in one of these?
If they are - I urge you to get them off of there - and on to paper. Archival paper. Paper and ink that will last generations. Because the generations after you will cherish them. And so will you.
